We are excited to partner with Backpack Yosemite for two backpacking trips: one for high school guys and one for high school gals. Space is limited to six students per trip with two instructors for each group. Both groups will circle the 28-mile Buena Vista Lakes Loop in Southern Yosemite. We’ll hike between 4-6 miles per day, jump into high alpine lakes, practice nature observation and mindfulness techniques, and scramble up Buena Vista Peak! Enjoy the best of the Sierras with a focus on self-care and moral responsibility in transitioning to adulthood.
Logistics: Students will meet in Ojai and drive to Yosemite where they’ll meet their instructors. The Boys group meets on the morning of Saturday, July 18th and returns Thursday, July 23rd. The girls group meets in Ojai on the morning of Sunday, July 19th and returns to Ojai on Friday, July 24th. Food is provided and gear is available to borrow. Cost is $800 per student. Contact Kaitlin.email@example.com for registration or questions.

KATIE MUNDLE, Wilderness Coordinator and Workshop Facilitator
Katie joined the Girls Empowerment Workshop in 2016 as a grant writer and is currently training to be a workshop facilitator. She has had the privilege of working with youth and teens for over a decade as a camp counselor, sports coach, yoga teacher, and wilderness guide. It is her love of wilderness that Katie is most excited to share with the girls in her role as Camping Director for TGEW. Every summer Katie leads backpacking trips for teens in the Eastern Sierra; focusing on natural history, health, and mindfulness. Katie trained with the Art of Yoga Project, an organization that seeks to rehabilitate teenage girls in the juvenile justice system by teaching them art, yoga, and journaling. Combining wilderness experiences with yoga to empower teens is Katie’s passion, and The Girls Empowerment Workshop is overjoyed to have her on our Team.
KEVIN SPACH, Naturalist & Owner of Backpack Yosemite
Kevin has worked in the High Sierra for over a decade as a Naturalist with the Yosemite Conservancy, a hiking and backpacking guide for Wildland Trekking, and a camp manager at the famed Vogelsang High Sierra Camp. He is a NOLS Wilderness First Responder, Epi-Pen, and CPR Certified. A former substitute teacher and athletic coach, he is grateful for the opportunity to mentor and educate in the most beautiful place in the world. This trip will be a transformative adventure with interpretation on natural and human history, creating a stronger sense of self and connection to the planet.
